These historical costume collages are made very simply and are suitable for a wide age range. They
add life to costume history study.
Begin by making a basic black or white card silhouette of the
traced outline of a particular garment model picture. Templates are here at
the silhouettes
section.
Next iron fabrics onto fusible interfacing such as Vilene. Or
use double sided adhesive film instead. Both allow the fabric to be cut without
fraying or marking the fabric with glue.
Arrange pieces of shaped fabric on the black card silhouette and
glue into place. Neaten untidy edges with trims. Stick the fabric silhouette to
a card background.
Finally an oval mount
of a darker tone can be put over the collage and an edge trimming or braid
applied to the join.
Links to some black
costume silhouettes are given on this page left and further below.
Fashion-Era.com looks at women's costume and fashion history and analyses the mood of an era. Changes in technology, leisure, work, cultural and moral values. Homelife and politics also
contribute to lifestyle trends, which in turn influence the clothes we wear. These are the changes that make any era of society special in relation to the study of the costume of a period.
