What is RSS?

What is RSS?

RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is designed to save you the bother of checking through all our 570+ pages to see if we have published any fresh material.  Our free RSS service (also known as an RSS channel) is made up of a list of items, each of which contains a headline and a link to a web page.  The advantage to you of the RSS system is that it automatically retrieves updates web pages as soon as we publish the content.

How to get your RSS reader

At your computer, you need to install an RSS news reader or aggregator.  The news reader will automatically collect the links to our new pages and display them on your computer.  When we publish a new page your Reader notifies you rather like Outlook notifies you of new email.

There are lots of news readers available, we believe that the free RSS versions on offer are all you need.  As a sign of things to come, Internet Explorer 7 (currently in Beta) has an RSS reader integrated into the browser.  An easy alternative is to get the utility as a free download from RSS Reader

Configuring your RSS reader

Once you have installed your free download look for a big plus sign on the RSS toolbar.  Click on the + and type (or copy and paste) http://fashion-era.com/footer/rss.xml.  You don't need any authentication as the feed is free. Note the filename is rss.xml (not .htm).

RSS instructions

You should now see at least 6 items in your RSS reader.  To configure setting such as feed properties, check the Tools menu, Options in your RSS reader.

In addition, each 'My Feeds' has its own properties, right click and select properties to fine tune the timing for each feed.  This is what the settings look like in the RSSReader, however RSS software varies and each has slightly different menus.
