I just hate reality TV shows that are so obviously 'directed' by the production team to go a ceratin way. Let's have more of dramas like Bleak House and Poiret that have not only good story content, but also excellent costuming.

What say the rest of you.
I'm hoping to see Narnia tomorrow - what do others think of it?

Some overseas visitors may wish to check this link for a first showing of Bleak House in the USA

I agree with you re; the costuming of such TV productions. Also, the Grananda Sherlock Holmes series featured excellent costumes...despite the earlier series being roughly 10-15 years ahead of time regarding ladies' fashion!

Narnia was, in my opinion, a lovely film, made all the better by the (almost) absence of the usual Disney-esque saccharine sweetness; although it was there in spirit!. I liked the costumes and thought Mrs Pevensie's hair and makeup were top-notch! I also found myself silently singing along to 'Oh Johnny' as the children played hide and seek! I was glad also, to see that politics did not prevail and that there were fur coats in the wardrobe. As a vegan, I cannot condone the use of real fur in fashion but had the film makers used non-fur (style) coats, I believe it would have detracted from the story, being as the coats were actually a poignant part of the tale.

My partner loathed the film but for me, it evoked childhood memories of reading the books and even though I did consider the coronation scene appallingly sickly, it was completely in keeping with how I remember the book. This I felt, was as it should be - what child doesn't want to be the dashing hero or beautiful heroine of the story? smile.gif

My intention was to take my visiting mother to see it as she likes wonderland films and I love costume.

Unfortunately I made the mistakle of not booking tickets on the internet as I usually do as we were going to an afternoon performance. However we had not considered that yesterday was a UK public holiday and found the next 2 showings were sold out. So we just came back home as we have already done the sales.

We opened a large box of Thornton's Belgian chocolates and guzzled our way half through them instead trying to convince ourselves that we hadn't been bothered about seeing it anyway.

I am glad you enjoyed it and I will try to see it soon. Yes the Uk does costume so well.

We had the same problem with the new Harry Potter film. Although we saw the midnight premiere, we decided to see it again, especially as one of my friends had a bit part in it, which we'd missed first time around. We tried to see it on the Monday before Christmas only to find it had sold out. On the Tuesday we got to the cinema five minutes after the film started and they wouldn't let us in (fully understandable)! On the Wednesday, my partner called into the cinema during his lunch hour and bought tickets, so we finally got to see it (again) and my friend's big moment! The good thing was that second time around, I was able to watch it without comparing it to the book, and so enjoyed it far more.

I also paid close attention to the Bauxbatons costumes and noticed that the skirts and jackets were very similar to a design I did for some friends earlier this year! Good taste will always prevail, eh? smile.gif

I hope you get to see Narnia soon - do look out for Jadis' gowns; they're stunning. Although at first from some angles one of them looks a little odd. Nevertheless, I loved the shape...and the hair!
