I received this reply today for you. Haven't quite worked out why Summer wrote to me. Must be a system thing which prevent her replying.

<<I do all my designs the old fashion way, such as sketching and pattern making by hand, but I do know that someone told me that there is a software called Snapfashun. I think if you are a student they offer student software at a lower cost, but I am not sure. http://www.snapfashun.com

Good Luck

I see the fashion toolbox one is now offering it in stage payments. This does make it more accessible.

Both of these are supposed to be good and frankly from all my searching they are pricey, but nothing like the cost of the Lectra fashion industry software. If you are a student with a college address/student id you can sometimes get discounts.

You do need adobe software to support the snapfashun.

My husband found one for me the other day. It's www.patternmaker.com it's considerably less expensive as the others as well as you can do a free trial. He's sent me some other links as well but I haven't had time to check them out yet and I can only do so much window shopping before I get depressed!

I use patternmaker. You can download a free valuation copy from their website. It is great for pinpoint accuracy when drafting from scratch, but you do need to use it a lot and keep at it, to get proficient with it. You can trial a free trouser macro as part of the trial which allows you to use their blocks with your measurements to draft a pair of trousers. You can download the free viewer and just buy macros from them to input your measurements into, rather than buy the whole package if you do not want to draft from scratch. They've also got two very knowledgeable and helpful web support groups.

Would anyone have any advice for a novice looking to possibly use this kind of software? I'm not terribly experienced, but am keen to learn - how much background knowledge do you really need? I'm a PA but trying to guide my career to eventually tailoring for a living - I feel as though it's a bit late for such a drastic career change (though I'm not quite 30 yet!) but I'm sure it will be more fulfilling than my current job!

Hello Daisy

That url is Ok so here it is http://www.patternmaker.com/index.html

The only thing is Kaziza seems to be looking for fashion design drawing software. Please correct me, but this seems to be pattern drafting design software rather than fashion drawing software which seems genearlly very expensive everywhere.

Did I miss something when I checked it out. However someone else was looking for this sort of software for drafting some time ago, so they'll be pleased that 2 of you suggest it.

Hmmm... I could have sworn someone on here pointed me towards Fashioncad... but I can't find that post, so now I'm beginning to think I imagined it! Anyway - has anyone used this before? Judging by the website, it looks very user friendly and rather handy!!

Website is here for anyone who is interested.
