I am preparing new pages to include timeline facts in the C20th. If you have specific one liner facts about the 1950s, 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s please post them here.

You can see a timeline page on the 1950s later this week to get an idea of what I am looking for. In particular I seek European and USA timeline facts that might interest site visitors. Although items of world relevance such as Nelson Mandela being freed and the Berlin Wall coming down etc would be useful if you have the correct date.

If you could post your replies in this section I'd be grateful. This can be a long on going topic so don't worry if you read this months later and come via the 1950's timeline webpage with an answer on a relevant fact for me. I'll post the url later this week to that new page.

-1970's-Musicians like Marc Bolan/Slade invent Glam Rock, wearing satin jackets and make up to enhance a feminine look.
-1990-Madonna embarks on her Blonde Ambition tour.Costume designer Jean Paul GAultier is inspired by 1950's longline conical bra.
-1993-Naomi Campbell falls from Vivienne Westwoods electric blue, mock crock, platfrom shoes at her Paris Catwalk show.

That was tough, I did a search and most of the info came from your site Pauline.

Very good - you just passed the test!

LOL thing I is I do know these things, but its' not easy when you try to piece everything together to give it the tone that suits the thread of the site.

Re the pill - the pill is a difficult one as it was invented in the 50s, but mass used in the 60s. I agree everyone though thinks of it as 60s.

So I've chekced it out and this is what my understanding of it is. according to the BBC site it was invented by Carl Djerassi at a laboratory in Mexico in 1951O do recall years ago seeinga film on it and learning then that it was trialed with poor and very fertile women who were told to place it next to their shower to remind them to take it daily.

The BBC say Enovid was the first commercially available oral contraceptive named in 1960 and produced by GD Searle and Co who took in $24 million net profits just from Pill sales in 1964.

Anyway keep ideas coming folks - it all helps and makes me double check ideas.

From my memory, (noticing the timeline of my favorite fashion, the miniskirt)

Again, if these are usable.....

1950's: I have nothing to add. I was a young pup.

1969:
July 20, first human to walk on the moon.
Mid- August, the Woodstock Music Festival.

1964: The first go-go boot. Some guy Andreas C... started it with an ankle high white boot. Later, these rise to knee length made popular by Nancy Sinatra. Sleek shorter a-line and chemise dresses with these knee high boots make the MOD look of the mid-60's.

1967: Mary Quant makes the miniskirt even shorter and more popular!

Fall 1973: The first Arab oil embargo. Miniskirts are at their shortest here in the US.

Summer 1977: "Saturday Night Fever" brings disco dancing and fashion into the forefront. The miniskirt is dead. sad.gif

1980: "Urban Cowboy" bucking horses replace disco dancing in the midwest US nightclubs. Disco fashion gives way to tight jeans, western boots, and tight spagetti strap tops.

Summer 1982: I notice the strong comeback of the miniskirt, albeit a different type of design from those of the previous decade.
